The Digital Lab began developing the DAM in 2017. When I came onto the team in 2018, the system supported videos and articles. Working with another UX designer, we expanded its capabilities to also include social media graphics and press documents. These two content types are used daily at embassies and consulates worldwide. The content can be downloaded and shared to amplify the Department's message to audiences domestic and abroad.
With the addition of new content, we had to consider security levels and user views. Thus, we also designed a separate UI for logged-in State Department users versus logged-out public users.

This presented a new challenge as we had to come up with creative visual indicators for State Department employees to know when they were logged out so as to minimize confusion and/or help desk tickets.
